Retina Care International is a not for profit organization that is committed to improving the quality of life of all people with retinal disease around the world. Currently, Retina Care International is currently focusing its efforts on solving the diabetic retinopathy pandemic in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It is estimated that there are 3.5 million inhabitants in the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche. Approximately fifty percent of these people are likely to develop diabetes sometime in their lifetime. Due to these alarming numbers it is imperative that the inhabitants of these states have access to the proper medical treatments. New construction of a retina clinic has been completed in the capital city of Merida. This facility will not only house dedicated medical and surgical suites but also an office for Retina Care International. Thanks to resources of transportation and housing in Merida, which will be provided by the State of Yucatan, diabetics from remote locations throughout the peninsula will have access to desperately needed medical treatments.
